Our thoughts and prayers are with all the families that were affected by the tragic San Diego wild fires. The Outdoor Living Landscape & Design Team would like to make rebuilding efforts a little easier by offering special discounts to those directly affected. Please contact our office for further details. Below are some helpful tips provided by the National Wildland Fire Prevention Team to obtain a fires safe landscape.

TIP 1.  Create a defensible space by removing dry brush and flammable vegetation at least 30 feet around your home and, replace it with fire resistant plants such as Sage, French Lavender and Yarrow to name a few. It is very important to properly maintain and prune plants to further aid in fire prevention.

TIP 2.  Plant low growing plants at least 30 feet around your house and properly space them. The taller the plants are, the wider apart they should be spaced by doing this you can reduce the chances of fire reaching your property.

TIP 3.  Prune Trees that are over 18 feet tall. Remove limbs that are within 6 feet of the ground to prevent fires from spreading through the tree. Avoid planting trees under or near electrical lines.

TIP 4.  Remove dead limbs that overhang from your roof and within 10 feet of your chimney.

TIP 5.  If you have neighbors with a common area between your homes, work with them to clear vegetation that could threat both.
